Hey, my name is Adam and I'm the creator of the Drop By Collective. If you're interested in the story of how it all got started, read on!
I'm from England, and since I moved to Denmark over seven years ago I've always been on the search for ways to feel connected to my local community. After moving to Amager, I found an identity that everyone on this island feels; a diverse, welcoming and "local" feeling place, where people really are nothing but themselves. I set out to discover what makes our neighbourhood so special, and started to interview all the local, independent business owners I could. I left feeling so inspired and connected, and I wondered how I could share that feeling wider.
I kicked off an instagram account to share photo biographies of our local small business owners with the goal to help locals feel more connection to the people who are creating us such a special neighbourhood, from cool shops to food and bars. You can still find them at
@dropbycollective (previously known as Kaktus Kollektiv). After receiving such great feedback, and finding many followers who were also interested in this mission of discovering new small businesses, the mission was born - to grow the "support local" movement.
I have a background in software, so here I found myself exploring all my resources. After much thought, an app to really showcase what Amager has to offer fell into place. For news, updates, a map and more, and now here we are.
Drop By Collective, the app, launched in August 2024, to build a community of local supporters. With an optional membership too, for those who wish to join the collective themselves, and get bonuses and perks at all the local businesses who have also joined the community.
I'm looking forward to growing the Drop By Collective and what we can achieve together.
Thanks for being part of it! :-)
